In a new year we decided to start new series of articles on Magento. Together we are going to figure out step by step how to build an online store, how to make it user friendly, responsive and simply good looking. We will prove that Magento is flexible and not complicated, you can o everything on your own. So let’s start. Today we would like to talk about changing basic configuration of your online store. It is the first thing that should be done.
WEBSITE THEME INSTALLATION
We have selected a website theme on Browuse and installed it. We did not do anything manually – three clicks and we are done.
It is empty, there are no pictures, products and descriptions yet, but looks nice, isn’t it? Especially taking into account the fact that it took us something like 5 minutes to install it.
MAGENTO ADMIN PANEL ACCESS
In order to access the admin panel we went to our Browuse account and clicked the button Admin Panel. Username and password were sent by email.
Everything is ready we can start changing a website and turning into a helpful tool for our business. Ready? Let’s go then.
WEBSITE CONFIGURATION: GENERAL OVERVIEW
Magento website configuration is the basic information about an online store that includes all possible types of settings. They are divided into the following categories: Template Framework, General, Catalog, Customers, Sales, Extensions, Services, Advanced. It is impossible to cover all of them within one article, so we recommend you to start with general configurations and right now we are going to concentrate on this issue.
SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: GENERAL
System => Configuration => General
Here you need to submit the information about your business field by field starting from the country where business is located. It is very important to submit the information about your store very carefully: store name, store contact telephone, store hours of operation, country, VAT Number, Store Address. Later this information will be use in invoices that will be automatically sent to you customers when the order is made.
System => Cache Management => Flush Magento Cache/Flush
Cache Storage Now save the configuration and clear the cache in order to see the results of your work on the website. Forgetting about cache is one of the common mistakes (never get nervous first flush cache and then start making conclusions ;).
Congratulations! We have completed the first step. It was very simple and no one will be able to do it faster and better than you. In our next article we will move to modification of header and footer and you will see that it is simple as ABC. Hope you find it useful and do not hesitate if you want to have your own business, just try and you will see that everything is possible.
